Blue Bloods

With Law and Order gone (I mean the original, not one of the endless new versions) I was looking for a new crime drama to take its place. Last year CBS gave me hope when they introduced Blue Bloods. Now in the second season I’m hooked on this amazing show. The excellent cast includes Tom Selleck, Len Cariou, Donnie Wahlberg, Will Estes, and Bridget Moynahan.

The drama centers around the Reagan family, a New York City family with deep roots in the NYPD. Tom Selleck plays Commissioner Frank Reagan who has the challenge of running the department which includes his detective son Danny (Wahlberg) and rookie cop son Jamie (Estes) who graduated from Harvard and joined the force when his brother Joe was killed in the line of duty. He has the aid of his father and former commissioner Henry (Cariou) as he attempts to remain above the politics of the job. In addition to his sons Frank also has a daughter Erin (Moynahan) who works for the District Attorney’s office. The combined lives of this family work together to create a drama that works well.

This is a show that has a lot of potential. The episodes stand alone well but the running story is also amazing. The actors surrounding the main characters all fit well and add to the series. One of the best things about this show is the lack of a gimmick, there’s no psychic assisting them or math geeks solving the crimes for them. This is a show about hard police work done by everyday cops.

I would recommend this show to anyone. Although it’s a crime drama it’s got a good back story and the characters all bring different things to the show.

I would rate this at 4 stars out of 5.

Rating: TV-14

Running Time: 31 episodes and counting
