Quid Pro Quo
Directed by Carlos Brooks
Starring: Nick Stahl, Vera Farmiga, Rachel Black
This 2008 movie might be one of the more unique stories I’ve seen in a long time. Directed by Carlos Brooks, the film never saw wide release and I only recently found it in the dark recesses of Netflix. The movie stars Nick Stahl who has had roles in films like Sin City and The Thin Red Line. Also featured is Vera Farmiga who most recently had a role in Source Code.
So what would make a perfectly healthy person want to be paralyzed? Radio host and paraplegic Isaac Knott (Stahl) is looking for the answer as he uncovers a world of people who desire to be disabled in one form or another. As he digs he finds a subculture that he never knew existed. His best source, Fiona, is one of these people. As they find themselves coming closer together Isaac realizes he may have the key to his own recovery. Isaac also comes to the realization that his connection with Fiona may be deeper than he ever thought.
This was a decent film with a very interesting premise. The acting is actually one of the highlights of the film, with several unknowns pulling off their roles quite well. The star of the film has to be the story though. The film deals with a subject that is dark, erotic, and emotional all at once.
This film is a strange look at people coming from different places. The desires of the characters clash and make for an interesting film. I give this one 2.9 out of 5 stars. Since it’s on Netflix it’s easy to check out.
