Best Makeup and Hairstyling
In 1981 critics and fans protested the lack of recognition for the makeup work done on The Elephant Man. Soon afterwards the Academy developed the Best Makeup. Prior to this category being added, the Academy only gave Special Achievement awards for work in makeup and hairstyling. It wasn’t until 2012 that the Academy renamed the award Best Makeup and Hairstyling. The many versions of this award have been given to a number of talented people. No one has been more recognized than Rick Baker (Star Wars). His seven wins out of eleven nominations puts him at the top of both lists.
