Best Sound Editing
This category came into existence at the 36th Academy Awards. The first statue was handed to Walter Elliott for It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. There have been several breaks for this category, but it has been included in every Oscar ceremony since Raiders of the Lost Ark won in 1981. From 1963 through 1967, as well as 1975, this category was called Best Sound Effects. In 1977, and from 1981 through 1999, this was called Best Sound Effects Editing. Since 2000, the award has been known as Best Sound Editing. Richard King currently holds the record for the most wins in this category with four. The lead for the most nominations is held by both Richard Hymns and Alan Robert Murray.
