[…] This film features incredible performances by the small cast. Denzel Washington gives a great performance as the aging and often conflicted patriarch. Davis does an equally good job playing opposite Washington. Their chemistry adds a level of authenticity to the story in this one. Stephen Henderson, Jovan Adepo and Mykelti Williams also do great work in this one. Adepo did an exceptional job holding his own in scenes with Davis and Washington. His performance really adds something special to the experience. Each of the characters in the film is complex and unique, and the cast seemed to embody those qualities perfectly. Denzel Washington earned an Oscar nomination for Best Actor, while Viola Davis was nominated for Best Supporting Actress. […]

[…] The acting in this movie is wonderful. Alex R. Hibbert, Ashton Sanders, and Trevante Rhodes each deliver powerful performances in their shared lead role. The incredible part of the movie is the way that all three of these actors maintained the traits of the character. Each of the trio were able to communicate deep emotions without an excess of dialogue. The film also features strong performances by Mahershala Ali, Janelle Monáe, and Naomie Harris. Overall, this cast understood the material and worked together to bring out all of the powerful emotions of the story. For their work Mahershala Ali was nominated for Best Supporting Actor, and Naomie Harris for Best Supporting Actress. […]

[…] The actors certainly had some great material to work with in this one. Dev Patel gave perhaps the best performance of his career in this one. His ability to communicate the inner-turmoil and deep emotions of his character add something incredibly special to the film. He also seemed to connect with the rest of the cast, adding a sense of authenticity that was definitely needed. Nicole Kidman also gave an outstanding performance in this film. Like Patel, she seemed to understand the deeper emotions of her role. This gave her work a level of depth that’s wonderful to see. David Wenham and Rooney Mara also do great work in this film. Everyone involved seemed to connect with the tones of the story, bringing out deep emotion. This film also benefited from the work of Sunny Pawar who played the young Saroo. Pawar’s performance is heart-wrenching and powerful, really building up to the work Patel did as the older Saroo. Overall, this cast did all the right things with this script. For their performances, Dev Patel earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor and Nicole Kidman was nominated for Best Supporting Actress. […]
